FAI CIAM Plenary is close

Already at April 11 there is starting FAI CIAM plenary meeting in Lausanne. In agenda (PDF) there are many rule change proposal, but I will try to focus on F3B/J/F and „gyro“ use. Text starts at page 35 onwards.

You will find that changes regarding „gyro“ are proposed only for F3F and F3J. We know that there is rule freeze for F3B for this year (2014). What does it mean? Gyros are in F3B allowed? If plenary will not confirm F3F&F3J rules changes, gyro is allowed also in F3F and F3J?

I was asking these questions to FAI CIAM RC soaring sub-committee chairman Tomas Bartovsky. Bellow you can read answer.

1.1. GENERAL DEFINITION OF MODEL AIRCRAFT
b) For the whole flight, a radio-controlled model aircraft shall be in the direct control of the flier, via a transmitter, and in the flier’s sight other than for momentary periods.

Majority of RC soaring Sub-Committee members is convinced that above mentioned paragraph  doesn’t allow  using any gyro like systems. You can also watch last FAI CIAM bureau enrollment. There is clear written that above mentioned paragraph should be understood as gyro is banned.

Competency to construe rules results from following paragraph.

A.3.2. The following matters are within the Bureau’s competence:
a) The interpretation, application and control of CIAM decisions;

This is answer from Tomas. I understand this statement that regardless of F3F/F3J plenary rule change ratification gyro is banned in F3B, F3J and F3F.

On RCGroups you can also watch unofficial FAI CIAM RC SC vote regarding some proposed rule changes.
